Internet Operations Manager

Managed Internet Operations group, which consists of DBAs, Unix systems administrators, and configuration management engineers responsible for maintaining server and network infrastructure as well as software release management for one of the highest traffic Internet sites. The group manages over 200 physical and virtual machines that handle over 25 million searches per day, with peaks over 600 per second.

  • Responsible for the uptime and response time of front end systems, back-end databases, ad servers, reporting and billing systems. Responsible for emergency response, troubleshooting efforts, and minimization of the impact of unplanned outages.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all team tasks are completed on time within the shifting and conflicting priorities of a dynamic organization.

  • Responsible for team building, hiring, firing and performance reviews for subordinates

  • Responsible for budget of over $1 million per year including estimation, planning, procurement, and implementation of projects within budget and schedule constraints.

  • Acted as a liaison between product development and production operations to define changes in implementations that support on-going software development.

  • Managed a cross-cultural IT Infrastructure group based in both Oregon and Tokyo, Japan. Group responsibilities included wide area networking, computer server equipment and operation systems, data center operations, facilities, and disaster recovery precautions.

  • Managed development implementations for systems management and systems monitoring of Boeing’s production MRM and ERP systems. These systems included HP Openview IT/O, NetIQ, SNMP, ksh and Perl scripts, and C programs to monitor both UNIX and Windows NT systems.

  • Managed automation of software configuration, load and validation testing scripts using Rational PreViewX (similar to Xrunner, winrunner) for Boeing’s production MRM and ERP systems.

  • Managed and led a massive transition to a new operating system for Boeing Data Servers.

  • Designed and implemented Boeing’s web-GUI, RDBMS based tools for configuration management and software release management and to automate complex software installation processes.

  • Managed project for an E-commerce (websphere) system for an IBM startup client

  • Served as the IT infrastructure architect for the post-merger HRM (peoplesoft) system expansion for Solectron/Lucent.

  • Designed and managed disaster recovery plan and data archival system for Louisiana Pacific.

  • Led team meetings and provided guidance to ensure projects progressed on schedule and in line with overall strategy and integrated schedules.

  • Consulted in the development of LP’s High-availability OLTP (lumber) trading floor system and Supported LP’s high-availability Sequent data servers and SUN Solaris servers.

  • Designed redundant, multi-city Interstate TCP/IP network providing Internet services including Bay, Ascend and Cisco router configuration, routing policies and access server configuration.

  • Designed and implemented the mail services, NNTP/NNRP Internet news server, RADIUS authentication servers, Apache server, and Internet domain name system servers for PTI.

  • Level 3 support and software tools development for the Boeing Application Integration services layer including 24x7 on-call support.
